Music and Guitar Workshops by Darren Swindells

Local musician and teacher Darren Swindells will be giving a series of  music workshops starting in January.

Darren has a long history of working in the music business as a performer and writer. Starting his career in England he worked as a guitarist, recording and touring extensively throughout Europe as well as doing TV and radio sessions for BBC DJ's such as John Peel and Janice Long. He then spent time working as a studio session guitarist in London before heading to the song-writing towns of Nashville and Austin in the U.S. to hone his song-writing skills.

Since arriving in Galway Darren has been coaching aspiring musicians of all ages, teaching them how to sing and play guitar, often including them in his own shows in order to give them stage experience.

'I teach music in the way I wish I'd have been taught. I learned on the job which isn't always the quickest way, but having done that I can now pass that knowledge on in a simple and accessible way, and take my students from beginner to performance level in the shortest possible time. Music is about creating, but you need a foundation from which to create music from, and that's what I teach. I give my students a framework that allows them to create their own music.'

Starting in January Darren will be holding regular workshops in guitar, singing, song-writing, and music foundation, as well as individual lessons.
