Choosing Childcare

MontessoriFollowing RTE's Prime Time programme last night, many parents will be anxious this morning about their childcare arrangements and whether they can be confident their child is receiving the best of care.  
Whether you are opt for a creche/pre-school/montessori or private child minding, there are questions you should ask to satisfy yourself as far as possible that the care your child is receiving is appropriate.

School Books - Shop wisely

computer & bookAs secondary schools finish up, parents will be receiving their school books lists for next year - check out our school book section for advice.
Secondhand School Books
 - there are already hundreds of books for being offered for sale by parents in our second hand book section.  Make sure to check it out before buying new and to add your own for sale.  Once you have input your books for sale, you can also print off a list/poster of your books to display for sale on your local shop noticeboard. 

New School Books 
- Before buying new, make sure to visit our School Book Section to compare offers, delivery charges and book covering costs from a range of on-line suppliers.  We also have details of some local school book shops in your area and a great guide from Easons on tips when purchasing school books, stationery and supplies.

Active listening - Really hearing what your teenager is saying!

reflective listening 120Most parents agree that listening to their children is really important. Some experts in the field actually rate listening as the most important parenting skill of all. 
This is because it helps parents understand their teenagers and also helps resolve conflict, allowing them to carry out discipline effectively. Yet despite this, very few of us get any training in how to listen. Sometimes we can find it very hard, especially when we have strong views about what we want for our teenagers.

School's out for many secondary school students this week with the majority of primary schools finishing up at the end of June.  There are great activities and camps around Ireland to suit all ages and lots of great family breaks to avail of.
