The Politics of Making Friends
Going back to school brings with it many emotions: excitement, uncertainty, fear and joy - every child will react in their own way whether they are just starting school or getting back into the school routine after the summer break.
For many parents, particularly those of younger children, the school term brings with it a number of concerns and anxieties and they are not all to do with academic ability. In fact, many parents are quite probably more concerned about their child settling in to school life and making friends than anything else.

New research from the Road Safety Authority (RSA) has revealed a 77.8% reduction in the number of children (0-14 years old) killed on Irish roads in the period 1997 to 2010. This was announced last week as the RSA and Electric Ireland teamed up for the third year running to distribute 85,500 high visibility vests to every child starting school this year. The vests will be included in the RSA’s ‘Back to School’ road safety packs which will be distributed to primary schools nationwide over the coming months. Make sure to read the ‘Going to School’ leaflets which your junior infant child will receive. This is a parent’s guide to getting children to school safely.
